People and Planet First

Please consider this message from our friends at Development and Peace:

Dear Educators,

Greetings from Development and Peace! We hope your year is off to a good start!

D&P has been dreaming up opportunities for students to engage their faith and social justice this year, and we’re excited to share one of those opportunities with you: D&P Students Day! On October 4, from 9 am to 10:30 am, students will learn about our fall campaign, People and Planet First, and how they can put their faith into action to advocate for people in the Global South. The event will be hosted by D&P animators Emily Lukasik and Dean Dettloff.

Students will also hear from one of our partners, Sr. Jean Bellini of the Sisters of St. Joseph, who has spent decades working directly with landless people in Brazil. You can read a great New Yorker profile on Sr. Jean here. By connecting the dots between Canadian business interests and her work with the marginalized on the other side of the globe, Sr. Jean will help us consider what we can do here in Canada to make a difference around the world. There will also be time for a Q&A with Sr. Jean and our animators.

We hope you and your students will be able to join us live! We’ll stream the event through StreamYard, so a recording will be available for those who can’t attend on October 4. You can register using the link below:
