Development and Peace will be launching a “wave of prayer” on December 10th, which is International Human Rights Day, to mark the beginning of Caritas Internationalis’ anti-hunger campaign, One human family, food for all, which seeks to bring an end to world hunger.
“There is enough food to feed the planet. We believe that with your help, we can end hunger by 2025,” said Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga, president of Caritas Internationalis, in a video message in support of the campaign. Caritas Internationalis is a federation of 164 Catholic development and relief organizations around the world. See also the video message from Pope Francis.
As the Canadian member of Caritas, Development and Peace will be participating in this campaign and will make global hunger the central theme of its 2014 Lenten fundraising campaign under the same slogan, One human family, food for all. For over 45 years, Development and Peace has been supporting local partner organizations in the Global South that are improving food security and demanding policies that ensure the right to food and favour local food production. -from thei D&P press release at http://www.devp.org/en/pressroom/2013/comm2013-12-05?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DevelopmentAndPeacePressRoom+%28Development+and+Peace+|+Press+Room%29
