Barefoot Teachers

Teacher candidates from York and OISE are participating in Adventure Learning Experiences India experience. Over the next few weeks they will be teaching in at the Loreto Convent School and St Michael’s in Darjeeling. They will be experiencing other modes of education such as the one pictured here in the Brickfields near Kolkata. They will be seeing Barefoot Teachers educating the children of migrant workers in a makeshift classroom under a tree. Barefoot Teachers are given basic teacher training by the Loreto Sisters and sent to communities who would not otherwise receive schooling. Here students are being taught Indian culture by creating patterns for designs on hands.
