Respecting Difference

Respecting Difference was released in January 2012 to help Catholic schools with bullying issues. Part of the context of the document was the Ontario Government anti-bullying legislation (Bill 13 which when passed became the Accepting Schools Act 2012). The most contentious part of the legislation dealt with naming Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs). Despite objections from the Ontario Bishops (ACBO) and school boards, the legislation was passed in June 2012. The links provided on CARFLEO’s inclusivity and equity links page not only provide the key documents related to this issue but also sites that help Catholic religious and family life educators deal with bullying issues, including homophobia.
